Everything is a bland, generic, boring new super Mario Bros themed addition to the game. The game has no original storytelling, worldbuilding, characters or environments. Unless you find the sticker on your first visit to the level or look up a guide, you're wasting your time blindly backtracking, hoping to find the right sticker. You can easily get stuck and end up backtracking to previous levels, hoping to find the right sticker to progress the game, without knowing where that sticker was in the first place. There's little joy in traversing through the environments. I wasn't having fun fighting enemies, and when I wasn't fighting enemies it felt like I was playing a walking simulator. It's arguably better to avoid fighting enemies in this game, and the combat isn't even fun enough to make it worth battling enemies for its own sake. In fact there's little reason to even engage in combat. You're never really growing Mario as a character. The battle system is both bland and unrewarding. It was the first paper Mario I tried and after about two hours I did not want to continue.Īsides from good music and aesthetics, it's a very mediocre game. If you must then find an inexpensive used copy so that you aren't stuck with it should you regret buying it. Sticker star isn’t a bad game (I find it mediocre) It’s just a bad paper Mario game The optional battle spinner is needed in order to beat most boss battles Which Kersti doesn’t tell you about the hidden things or where to use it The level design is baffling with cryptic puzzles and hiding mandatory ‘things’ behind walls you need to use the paperise ability on. Rewards for filling the sticker museum are underwhelming Which you wouldn’t know about before fighting the boss unless you’ve already played the game before.īattles are useless as you don’t gain exp from fighting enemies you just lose stickers The thing stickers are the worst game play mechanic in any Mario rpg, with bosses that can only be defeated by using a specific thing. Kersti is the worse partner in any paper Mario game, giving you ‘hints’ which don’t help you at allĮvery NPC is just a toad with the only thing differentiating them is there Color
